Lume Home. Lamps and housewares to illuminate your life.

Handmade lamps and dishware inspired by the past, made for the future.

Lume Home (pronounced loom, as in to illuminate) makes original ceramic lamps, dishware, and other functional objects inspired by modernism—bringing handmade warmth and distinction to every room.

Our mid-century-inspired lamps are customized by your choice of glaze, texture, and wood and are individually artisan-made and assembled with care in Portland, Oregon. Our other products have been developed with color families in mind allowing you to select pieces that will complement your home’s style.

Lume Home’s lamp and functional ceramic houseware designs are an extension of Jim White’s sculptural investigations into ceramics. With formal visual references that allude to the crisp linear qualities present in Scandinavian and Danish pottery and furniture design of the 1950’s and 60’s, and surface treatment that is rooted in Japanese pottery traditions and techniques, these objects provide practical lighting and useful tableware while embodying the refinement and history of their design inspiration. The result is a stylish and unique utilitarian art object.

As with any object made by hand from natural materials, there exist small variations in each one—variations that make each object a unique piece of art.

In addition to our flagship lighting products, our utilitarian objects include cups, bowls, vases, and plates that continue in this same aesthetic tradition. Crisp lines and defined forms provide a ceramic canvas for one of our several different design patterns.

These products are intended to be of the finest quality and craftsmanship. Objects that are properly cared for can last a lifetime.

Jim White is an educator and practicing artist working with both sculptural and functional ceramics. His Masters in Fine Arts is from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of American Crafts, which was founded on and continues to train artists in the philosophy of the Bauhaus. Jim’s education taught him to place great importance on the concept behind and the individual steps involved in making ceramic objects—a trait further instilled during his apprenticeship at the Chozaemon Ohi pottery in Kanazawa, Japan. His focus on process and attention to detail ensures that all Lume Home products are of superior quality and craftsmanship.
